15/02/2010 10:37:47 - MK Dons Launch Half Term Bike Challenge

ON YOUR BIKE FOR DONS CHARITY CYCLE

MK Dons has set a marathon challenge for local businesses to raise money for its Sport and Education Trust (SET) and Help for Heroes.

The Mayor of Milton Keynes, Cllr Euan Henderson was joined by MK Dons Chairman Pete Winkelman on Monday 15th February at Midsummer Place Shopping Centre to launch the event, with teams of six from local businesses challenged to cover the greatest distance possible in six hours on static exercise bikes kindly provided by Energie Fitness Milton Keynes.

The event is in support for the MK Dons Sport and Education Trust’s 1000 Mile Bike Challenge in June where a team of 6, including MK Dons Community Ambassador Paul Mitchell, will ride the gruelling 1000 miles between Lands End and John O’Groats. The entrance fee was a £300 minimum donation per team with each person receiving an MK Dons match ticket, team challenge t-shirt and a signed team photo with Community Ambassador and first Team Coach, Paul Mitchell. To date teams had already raised over £4500 to go towards the £20,000 target for the challenge.

The team with the furthest distance cycled will win a Corporate Box and catering at a MK Dons First Team match; second place will also receive a Corporate Box without food; third place will get six Club Red tickets and a special prize will be awarded to the person that raises the most amount of money at the 4pm prizegiving on Friday 19th February. There will be a chance for the public to get involved on this day also in a ‘Time challenge’ where they can see how far they can travel in a certain timeframe for the chance to win a 6 week pass to Energie Fitness Milton Keynes.

Paul Mitchell, MK Dons Community Ambassador and a member of the Football League’s Help for Heroes Ambassadors Team said; “We are hoping that as many companies as possible can support the challenge and help us reach our overall target of £20,000 as part of our Lands End to John O’Groats Bike Challenge in support of the SET and Help for Heroes. Having personally been affected by the loss of a friend in the Afghanistan conflict me and the team are determined to achieve this goal ”
